Why do the southern towns wait longest for everyone else?
Most locksmiths around here work out of Utica or points north, which turns a Waterville call into a long haul they'd rather skip. We're the only locksmith based south of New Hartford, so the run down to the village is short and familiar. For the southern end of Oneida County, that's often the difference between waiting an hour and waiting twenty minutes.
It shows up after dark, too. Plenty of shops in the area let evening calls go to voicemail. We answer nights, weekends, and holidays, because lockouts don't check the calendar.
Hop-boom houses and hundred-year-old hardware
Waterville's hop money built handsome Victorian homes, and plenty still stand in and around the Triangle Historic District along Main Street, White Street, and Barton Avenue. Houses that age tend to carry mortise locks that have been painted over, loosened, or worn past smooth operation. Our first move is saving the original hardware: cleaning, repair, and rekeying from $30 per cylinder plus the service call, with the exact price agreed before we open a toolbox. Replacement, from $65 per lock plus hardware, only comes up when it's genuinely the better answer.
Old houses here also like to surprise new owners with old safes. We open them non-destructively whenever possible, starting at $150 and quoted first, and once it's open we can set a fresh combination that's yours alone.
Farm calls south of the village
The country between the village and the Route 20 crossroads is working farmland, and farms have lock problems houses never see: padlocked barns with lost keys, storage that needs real security, gates and sheds and equipment. We handle all of it on site, and we don't play games with mileage. The price we quote on the phone is the price, with the service call credited toward the work.
Stuck on Route 12?
Route 12 runs straight through the middle of the village, and a dead fob or a locked-in key doesn't care what time it happens. Car lockouts start at $75, key fob programming at $95, and we cut and program transponder keys from the truck starting at $180, so you're not towing a car to Utica just to get a key made. Confirm the exact price when you call, then sit tight. (916) 969-8748.

Waterville questions
Asked around here
Is Waterville actually inside your service area, or is it an extra-charge trip?
It's inside, full stop. Waterville is the southern edge of our regular coverage, with the same $39 service call as everywhere else, credited toward the job. You'll have the exact total quoted before we leave Chadwicks.
Can you rekey our farm outbuildings to match the house?
Usually, yes. Where the hardware is compatible we can bring house doors, barn doors, and padlocks down to fewer keys, sometimes just one. Rekeying starts at $30 per cylinder plus the service call, and you'll approve the exact number before we start.
We found a locked safe in a house we just bought. Can you open it without wrecking it?
That's the goal every time. Safe opening starts at $150, quoted before we come out, and we work non-destructively first. If anything more aggressive were ever needed, we'd talk it through with you before proceeding. Once it's open, we can change the combination on the spot.
